It’s in the nature of people as we go through life, to act strong and give the impression that all is okay thinking that no one will understand their underlying challenges or heartaches that they are going through. We put on a smiling face while deep down within us we fear and a cry of anguish is tearing us apart at the challenges that life brings our way. We try to be strong hoping that our smile will hide our struggles or will encourage and strengthen others. Few if any would care to know that deep down we are in the verge of giving up. The Scriptures gives the account of a lady called Hagar. She was the house girl of Abraham and Sarah and the mother of Ishmael. The Scriptures says that when domestic problems visited the family it reached a point where Hagar was chased away with her son. It was a desperate moment for this girl wondering what to do in the wilderness far away from her home. She felt alone with her son facing the challenges of life and never thought anybody else cared. She reached a point where she could not even provide for her own son who almost died of thirst. When her son could not stop crying because of thirst, Hagar helplessly placed him under a bush to avoid seeing the boy die in her arms. How many things have we given up hope on so that we don’t see our dreams die in our hands? How often do we battle heartaches alone thinking that no one else cares? Where have you reached your end but you are still putting on a strong face? As Hagar discovered, there is a God who sees us even when we are hiding in our tears. When we think no one cares, there is a God who visits us with care and turns around our desperate situations. The God who called Hagar in her desperate moment and gave her hope in her desperate hour is still in business today. He is still searching for desperate souls so that He can show himself strong on their behalf. If you don’t mind looking beyond the known and the familiar, you shall see a God who opens our eyes to see hope when despair knocks on our doors. He is the unseen one who sees us!
“God heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, “What is the matter, Hagar? Do not be afraid; God has heard the boy crying as he lies there.” Genesis 21:17 NIV
