Quite often in life, we fall into the temptation of taking some of the things that God has given us for granted. We always fall into the temptation of assuming the ordinary that we have. We fill our time trying to get to the greener grass on the other side as we ignore and assume what we have. Businesses are always hunting for the next customer while forgetting that it is easier to retain an existing customer than it is to get a new one. The scriptures gives the account of Jesus lamenting over the cities where He had performed his greatest miracles. The people in those cities had gotten familiar with what Jesus was doing. They never saw the big deal with the miracles of Jesus and as they say familiarity breeds contempt. It is said that the devil rarely steal anything from us but all he does is to make us take what you have for granted. Jesus lamented that if the miracles that had been performed in those cities had been performed elsewhere, the people would have been grateful and repented. What blessings has God endowed you with but you’ve become used to them? Where is familiarity robbing you the ability to see God at work in your life? What are you taking for granted today that others would do anything possible to get? Your family, spouse, children, job, business, health, etc? Please refuse to get used to God’s blessings in your life. If each of us was careful to observe the work of God in our lives, we would have more to celebrate and thank God for and little to complain about. No matter how bad your situation might appear to be, there are people who would do anything to be where you are. Let’s hope Jesus is not lamenting today over your ingratitude!
““Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.” Matthew 11:21 NIV
