Life is a journey with different stages in between. The need for interim celebrations becomes important with every stage of the journey. God guides us through every step of the journey and is very interested with what we do with every step even as he implores us to finish our race. Life can be gloomy if we have to wait for something big to happen in order for us to celebrate. We must learn the secret of celebrating short term victories! The ability to identify moments of celebration is key in renewing our strengths! The Scriptures gives the account of God giving the Israelites victory over their enemies. The Philistines had troubled Israel for too long until God through Samuel the judge gave them victory. It was the first step of victory but Samuel still raised a stone of celebration in God’s honor and called it Ebenezer! It was true there were many other battles they would face ahead but Samuel was still able to say, ‘This far the Lord as helped us!’ Samuel was aware there are battles they may face in future and lose but he focused on the victory that God had given them for the current battle. He did not wish to postpone victory until all the battles were won. What victory has God given you of late? What occasion ought you to celebrate but you don’t see the reason for the celebration? Where are you postponing small celebration until the end? The joy of the Lord is our strength and God is honored when we raise altars of celebration in his honor. Do not overlook that birthday celebration, wedding anniversary, baby shower, a job after a long period of searching, a healing, a new house, a book launch, etc. Raise an altar for God and have a moment of celebration. It’s the altars of celebration we are raising today that will give us the courage to move on when we face crisis in future. May your life in days to come be remembered for the altars of celebration that you raised up honoring God for victories in your life!
“Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.” 1 Samuel 7:12 NIV
