There are those challenges that we face in life and they do not seem to disappear no matter how long we pray. We come to God with some problems we would wish sorted out, we plead with him for solutions and we are tempted to think God is not interested with our struggles. When Joshua was dividing the inheritance of Canaan to the children of Isreal, the descendants of Joseph felt their portion was not enough. They wanted something better and so they appealed to Joshua who seemed to ignore them. The problem was they could not even readily settle on what they had. Their territory had forested mountains and the plains were occupied by Canaanites who had iron chariots. They had something they felt was not enough and it had some challenges too. Joshua instructed them to clear the forests and get to the mountain which would provide a vantage point from which they could drive away the Canaanites. There are occasions when God wants us to clear the forests and go up. We cannot solve our problems from the same level! God will rarely solve a problem which he knows we can solve ourselves. Which Canaanites are you afraid of today and what forests are there in your territory? Clear the forests! Do you have a job but the qualifications are a challenge? Clear the forest and acquire some more knowledge that will help you drive out the Canaanites. Could you be struggling with a problem when all what God wants you to do is acquire more skills, a better attitude, a better discipline like eating well, etc? Yes! Clear your forests!
“But Joshua said to the tribes of Joseph—to Ephraim and Manasseh—“You are numerous and very powerful. You will have not only one allotment but the forested hill country as well. Clear it, and its farthest limits will be yours; though the Canaanites have chariots fitted with iron and though they are strong, you can drive them out.” Joshua 17:17-18 NIV
