Human beings are creatures of habit who adapt to the environment they find themselves in. Problems and challenges have their own way of conditioning us until they almost become part of us. It’s possible to get used to problems until we make them part of us. If we are not careful we silently become bitter and start to see ourselves as helpless victims. This was Gideon’s way of thinking, he was so much used to the oppression of the Midianites that he was threshing grains in hiding. Without realizing it, his heart was becoming bitter and he found himself asking the Angel, “if God is with us as you allege then why are we going through this?” He was so used to the pain to an extent he did not think that he had the solution. What could you be going through that you have given up hope that God can solve it? What pain have you accepted as part of your life? Do you see yourself as a victim when God sees a warrior in you? I can still hear God telling you, “go in the strength you have and make a difference”. Yes, trust him to empower you! Gideon realized the strength was not his sword or the people, but absolute trust in God. He praised God with a weapon a praise and God defeated all the Midianites as one man!
“The Lord answered, “I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites, leaving none alive.” Judges 6:16 NIV
