Don’t quit fishing because of the wrong catch!

We are living at a time when relationships have become quite stressing and it’s not easy to discern people’s real intentions. Many are nursing wounds from relationships because they have been used, abused and dumped. A friend of mine the other day was telling me how her relationship has become like Covid 19. When I sought to know what she meant, she narrated how stressful it has become for her because she is discovering new cases everyday. For someone who was looking forward to a fulfilling marriage, that security is no longer there. Her main concern is the time she has invested in this relationship and she can’t imagine starting afresh all over again. How do you start fishing again in an ocean that is infested with sharks? This reminds me of how Jesus came across discouraged fishermen who had tried getting a catch for a whole night without success. In my thinking, the best they managed to catch were snakes and frogs and it was difficult when Jesus told them to give it one more attempt. Just like us, it was not easy for them to go back to the same area they had been hurt. It’s not always easy nowadays to know what decision to make amongst alternatives and in a confusing environment. God promises to guide us and instruct us in the way we should go and that is why He gave us a helper and a guide in the form of the Holy Spirit. He helps us identify opportunities that we would miss on our own and know what dangers to avoid. That’s why it is important to pray over every issue however minor it is asking God to remove any imitations that may drive us away from our goal. God has promised through the Holy Spirit to guide us into all the truth. This exposes whatever lies the devil may have for us. We however have a part to play and we must be willing to go back fishing to the shark invested oceans. We can’t afford to give up because we’ve been hurt and we can’t give up trying again just because we’ve been abused. The enemy’s idea is for us to fear until we give up and become miserable. Where have you stopped pursuing a dream because you have been hurt before? Where are you fearing starting all over again because you fear the same pattern will repeat itself? It’s not easy to cast your nets again in a sea where the only catch for a whole night were snakes and frogs but you can like Peter tell the master that at his word, you will do it. Go back fishing again but this time with him!
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” Psalms‬ ‭32:8‬ ‭NIV‬‬
