Much of life is lived in the ordinary and in the common day to day activities that we involve ourselves in. The menial works that we do, the friends we laugh with and the ordinary routines of a common life. The extra ordinary many times happens in the realms of the ordinary. It is never planned for and you have to be engaged in the ordinary routines for the extra ordinary. The scriptural account of Jesus attending a wedding in the Cana of Galilee is a good example. Jesus was not going to the wedding to perform a miracle. He just responded to a simple wedding invitation where people were doing the ordinary until wine run out and they requested his intervention, He did not perform some abracadabra and wine popped out. He asked them to do an ordinary routine and fill the jars with water. Filling the jars with water is the ordinary that they had to do. Many times God will require of us to do the ordinary in our power and then trust him to do the extra ordinary. What is the minimum that God is asking of you to do so that He can intervene on your behalf? What jars could you fill with water so that God can transform your water into wine? What step of faith can you take as you trust God for that miracle? Faith builds capacity that God can use in visiting us. Its doing the ordinary by faith and allowing God to do what you cannot do. The ordinary could just be opening your business by faith and trusting God for the customers. It could be showing up for the interview or that job enquiry. It could be going for that coffee date, showing up for a client’s meeting prepared, undertaking that simple course and the like. Whatever miracle you are trusting God for, may you have the insight to know what jars you have to fill with water!
“Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.” John 2:7 NIV
