Sleep is an important component of our lives. It’s gives us an opportunity to relax and reenergize ourselves. However, life also has seasons of sleep that may make us quite uncomfortable. Those seasons you find yourself idle doing nothing. Despite your best efforts nothing seems to move during those season. Everyone else seems busy and involved but things appear stagnant for you. That is what happened to Adam. When every part of creation was busy enjoying the created order, Adam found himself in deep sleep. Maybe it lasted days, weeks or months we don’t know. I can imagine animals asking themselves what happened to Adam. What they didn’t know is that God was fashioning for Adam the most important miracle as he slept. It is when things appear stagnant in your life that God could be working on his most important miracle without interference. Where is your life appearing to be in deep sleep? Is it in relationships, career or family? Where have you tried your best and nothing seems to move? God may have caused the deep slumber to work on something he doesn’t want you to interfere with. Perhaps the most important lesson we can learn is that God works best when men go to sleep.
“So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh.” Genesis 2:21 NIV
