It is not unusual in life to find ourselves limited in some ways or in some areas. People are gifted differently and there is that one area where you will find yourself struggling and unable to compete with others. Life’s beauty is contained not only in knowing what you can do but in also understanding our limitations and knowing that it’s not every league we are called to compete. There will always be areas we feel vulnerable and where we must choose to play it safe. For some of us it could be our messy backgrounds, infightings within the family, abject poverty, limitations in sports or academics, poor relationships, etc. We know it and are aware only God can make a difference for us. The Scriptures talks of Nazareth, a town that was unknown, ignored and assumed. People would have expected surprises from other big cities but not this small village. This is until the God of the underdogs decided to turn around the tables. God’s Sovereignty often sees him loving to work with the underdogs. Most of the biblical characters were underdogs when God decided to bypass the preferred and seemingly mighty choosing rather to work with the ignored and those perceived weak. Where do you feel an underdog? Where are you competitively challenged? Tell God about it and it won’t be long before they start calling your forgotten Nazareth, Jesus of Nazareth!
“He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor. “For the foundations of the earth are the Lord’s; on them he has set the world.” 1 Samuel 2:8 NIV
