It’s not you I want; it’s your clothes!

We live in a world where it’s not always possible to know the intentions of people. It’s a known fact that when you are doing well in life, you are likely to get many friends following you but in challenging moments the opposite is true. People are largely driven by personal interests and few will follow you without asking what is in it for them. As such it’s not always easy to judge the real intentions of the people that you find close to you. Just before the hour of his pain, Jesus predicted to his disciples that they would all flee but leave him alone. He went through the period of his pain alone. One of the most interesting facts about the crucifixion and death of the Lord Jesus Christ is how the Roman soldiers decided not to destroy his robe but rather cast lots on who should take it. It’s surprising how people can find worth in your clothes than they can find in you as a person. No wonder many today follow Jesus not because of who He is, but because of the anticipatory blessings! People will not find it difficult to take away his clothes because they mean more to them than Jesus himself means. Do you follow the Lord because you love him or because of what you get from him? Do the blessings that flow from him mean more to you than the Lord himself? May God help us that we may love him with the whole of our hearts, soul, mind and strength!
“Then the soldiers nailed him to the cross. They divided his clothes and threw dice to decide who would get each piece.” Mark‬ ‭15:24‬
