The Scriptures describe human life as one that is lived in a tent where we groan wishing to be unclothed. Life is progressive and things can change abruptly without any warning. Change is the only constant many of us know and which we must get accustomed to. Quite often when we want to settle, life moves one and does not allow us to do so. We get a job where we want to settle but no sooner than we start settling disruptions come and we find ourselves jobless. We enter into a friendship where we want to settle but soon and without warning things change. Every now and then something is changing! We need to adapt to the unpredictabilities of life if we are to avoid hurting ourselves. Perhaps the journey of the Israelites from Egypt to the promised land is one we can learn from. The scriptures says that God guided them using a pillar of fire and cloud. The Israelites did not have a contract with the divine guidance to show them how long they were to spend at a given place. In some occasions, no sooner than they began to settle the cloud would move. Sometimes after just a day or two, occasionally after some months or even years. Things used to change without warning! The constancy of changes in life should help us to focus on the one that does not change. Lives are being turned upside down every now and then. Accidents, sicknesses and diseases, death of loved ones, divorce, crime and political upheavals are some of the unpredictable things that are affecting many of us. Have we trained our lives to live under the cloud? Do you feel the issues facing you are so much to handle? Our lives do not belong to us, when God says move, we must move otherwise we shall be left hurting! Let us avoid settling where we are only meant to pass through. While at it and since we don’t know for how long, let’s maximize every opportunity we get at the place where the cloud settles and thus gather the hay while the sun lasts!
“Sometimes the cloud stayed only from evening till morning, and when it lifted in the morning, they set out. Whether by day or by night, whenever the cloud lifted, they set out.” Numbers 9:21 NIV
