Life is lived in the rhythm of the ordinary. When we are born, we fit into a certain pattern through which we approach our every day life. The daily routine might appear boring making us wonder if there is anything else to life than this daily cycle. Wake up in the morning, go to work with a lunch break in between, go back home in the evening exhausted and retire for the night is usually the routine for many. The ordinary makes us long for some extra ordinary moments. The patterns can also be quite alluring making us think that things will always be the way they are. We are taken aback when God invades our ordinary with his extra ordinary and the routine suddenly changes. Many of the accounts we have in the scriptures are instances when God invaded man’s ordinary with his extra ordinary and more so when it was least expected. When Moses came across the burning bush, the day was not different from any other! He was busy repeating the same routine he had become accustomed to when he met God. God desires of us to faithfully carry on the ordinary and let him do the extraordinary at his time! We can never time God’s miracles or visitations in our lives. He usually comes through for us at his time. Waiting on God does not mean being idle doing nothing. It means doing the next possible thing you can do and allow God to come at his time. Where could you be waiting on God in a given area of life? What daily routines could you be taking for granted? What could you be doing at the moment as you wait on God in your situation? Many of the calling that God ever made were interruptions. The guys were busy doing something. Like Moses or the disciples, faithfully take care of your daily routines and you’ll be surprised where he shall meet you. At his time, he will make the interruption!
“So Elijah went from there and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen, and he himself was driving the twelfth pair. Elijah went up to him and threw his cloak around him.” 1 Kings 19:19 NIV
