There is always a great degree of satisfaction that is realized when you accomplish a given task. In a world that is filled with many detractions that can remove our focus from the goal, there is no greater joy than knowing that you’ve achieved what you set yourself to accomplish. The scriptural story of Noah sending a raven after the flood describes many of us. The distractions were so many for the raven that it never went back to the ark. It took Noah sending a dove to have the others come out of the ark. No wonder Jesus advised us to have the innocence of a dove. When Jesus neared the last moment of his mission on earth, he must have thought through the many detractions that he had managed to evade. The alluring shortcut that Satan had provided for his lifting up without going to the cross. The attempts by the public to forcefully make him king and the ability to remain focused without using his miraculous powers to serve selfish ends. Not many of us can overcome such temptations without getting side tracked. Jesus successfully maneuvered the tempting patches of life without giving in. It was possible for him to tell the Father; I have accomplished the mission you gave me. How confidently are you living your God given mission? What detractions have you allowed to remove you from the path of your goals? What attractions have kept you busy like Noah’s raven that you can’t remember what was your mission? You have a God given mission that no one else can accomplish that will come to an end the moment you depart. Don’t rob the world the joy of experiencing the task that God equipped you to perform!
“I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.” John 17:4 NIV
