There is no feeling that degrades a persons sense of worth like the feeling of being used. We live at a time where people are experts at using others only to dump them after they achieve their goals. It’s unfortunate that this same mentality has crept amongst some believers where the basis that informs their faith has been to use salvation as a means to achieve some selfish ends. Today’s prosperity gospel has seeing many come to the faith, “to use the Lord Jesus’ as a means to an end. Such a mentality is debased and one that is bound to fail. Jesus made it clear that a call to follow him is a call to the cross. Faith in Christ means self denial and allowing him to be the Lord of all that you are and you have . He becomes the author of your new found destiny and takes over the reigns of your life. He is the shepherd and can lead you wherever He wants and not where you anticipated. Humanly speaking, John the Baptist might have felt ignored and bypassed when the multitude that followed him started following Jesus. But John recognized the essence of true faith in a Person’s life is, “Jesus must increase as I decrease!” Are you tempted to use God as a means to an end? Does your faith in God show a sense of total surrender? Has the influence of Christ in your life overtaken the influence of your ego, selfish desires and dreams? Does your life point others to him or to yourself?.” May Christ increase in our lives until He becomes the Lord of all including our very intents! He alone must be our greatest reward!
“He must become greater; I must become less.” John 3:30 NIV
