No matter how good or smooth our lives may appear to be, there will always be that one thing, one area or one concern in our lives that takes most of our energy. It could be a personal weakness, an ailment, or an isolated problem that always keep us unsettled finding us saying, “if only”. Abraham the heir of God’s promises must have felt cheated when his nephew Lot took for himself the fertile fields of Canaan. Lot chose for himself the most beautiful parts of the promised land in what the scriptures call, the fertile plains of Sodom leaving Abraham with some mountain leftovers. Abraham must have felt cheated and could have decided to concentrate his effort on what he had lost. He could have played in the hands of the enemy who wants us to concentrate our efforts on that one thing that went wrong or is not working instead of looking into the possibilities of what God can do. God is telling us like Abraham, look around you, there is so much more. What could be denying you peace today? That customer who refused to pay? That lady/ man who hurt you or used you? That health issue you are battling with? Don’t play into the enemies tactics. Look around! There is more to life than the plains of Sodom! God promised to prosper Abraham in his leftover mountains eventually taking over what Lot had denied him. What concern is obsessing your life? What is holding your life hostage and you are unable to move on in other areas? Don’t play into the enemy’s hands who wants you to lose focus over the plains of Sodom. Remember God is willing to work with what remains!
“The Lord said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west. All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever.” Genesis 13:14-15 NIV
