Quite often as we journey through life’s paths, we go through scaring moments that can only be described as a walk through the valley of the shadow of death. Those are the instances when you feel surrounded by fear and anxiety and you may not know how best to act. Moments when you are never so sure of the next step and every move you make has a high degree of risk. During those times you are never so sure of your next move and the only thing you are sure of is your fears. That must have been the situation that David has in mind as he wrote Psalms 23 in the scriptures. David had lived most of his life as a fugitive being pursued by King Saul who wanted to kill him. He lived life on edge not knowing what the next moment will be but purposed to hold on to God who held his future. During these hard times of Covid – 19 when our lives have suffered great disruptions, we could be going through our own valley of the shadow of death. Many of us are clouded by fear, anxiety and uncertainty about the future. David knew that although he could not control the circumstances that befell him, he could control how he reacted to the same. He purposed not to fear because he had a shepherd. He was just a simple sheep and his responsibility was to follow the shepherd who is responsible for the safety of the sheep. The sheep’s responsibility is to march forward following the voice of the shepherd. God who got you into this season has every intention to get you out of it. It’s part of your journey with Him. When you don’t know what to do, just listen to the shepherd’s footsteps . It may be dark yes, but you can be confident that you will get to your destination safely.
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” Psalms 23:4 NKJV
