Tipping God’s Scales!

It’s always interesting how great things start from small continuous actions. A water dam is a massive collection of water that often starts from a trickle that flows continuously into the dam. Small continuous actions have a way of building up momentum which can have disastrous results. Nothing big just happens and everything big always starts small and then outgrows our ability to manage it. A careful search of the scriptures would reveal that God is very patient with us. He told Abraham that he would give his descendants the land of Canaan where other communities were living. He also disclosed that he will dispossess those communities that land because of their sins. By the time of Abraham God revealed that the sins of those people were still growing and had not tipped his scales. It’s like God was measuring those sins one by one taking approximately 500 years of God’s patience before he eventually removed them. It’s clear that God measures our day to day actions and attitudes towards him. Like a small trickle would fill a dam, God has marked the level that our wickedness should not cross. We might be tempted to think that God is slow in punishing evil but he maintains the scales of his justice and once they reach a tipping point, there is no going back. He faithfully measured the sins of the Babylonian kings until one night a writing of judgement appeared on their wall. How do your scales look like today? Could you me almost reaching the tipping point that warrants his judgement? Could you be misinterpreting God’s patience to mean he is condoning your behavior? God is loving but he is also just. His justice demands he must punish our continuous wickedness. The beauty with God’s scale is that they return to zero when we accept his offer of forgiveness through Christ! Take care otherwise the writing is about to appear in your wall saying, “that’s enough!”
“In the fourth generation your descendants will come back here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure.” Genesis‬ ‭15:16‬ ‭NIV‬
