We are living at a time when many friendships are shallow and fake. Very few relationships today are outrightly genuine. It’s difficult to know whether your friends love and appreciate you for whom you are or for what you give or do to them. It’s becoming difficult nowadays to get someone who will appreciate you for the person you are.
“You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.” Deuteronomy 6:5 NKJV”
For those with good positions, many friends befriend you because of your position, or your money or the influence you give. When it comes into our relationships with God, he makes it clear that a relationship with him must be based on loving him with the whole of our heart, soul, mind and strength. Nothing fake is allowed. God detests those who want to use him and many of us get discouraged when we try to use God as a means to end rather than the end itself. We should never get to want anything more than we want God. Nothing should overflow our desire more than our desire for God. When we want a blessing more than we want the giver, that becomes an idol and God will never compete with idols. What informs your love for God? The things he does for you? The double double you sing about? God desires we love him for whom he is and not for what he has! He is to be your greatest reward!
